Burlington Golf and Country, established in 1922 is one of the oldest courses around. It boasts a challenging layout and exceptional views. Their annual Burlington Invitational traditionally attracts the finest amateur golfers in Southern Ontario and Western New York State.
BG&CC has undergone quite a transformation over the past 5 years. Due to turf loss and substandard conditions, BG&CC decided to start on an extensive tree removal program to increase sunlight and airflow to their greens. Additionally, they started a program to drill and fill (with Hutcheson dried B sand of course) their greens on an annual basis. This vastly improved the drainage and they slowly started to see better conditions on their old POA greens.
In addition to these changes, the fall of 2013 saw the start of a bunker and cart path renovation that will be completed by the fall of 2014. However, this past winter was devastating, wiping out nearly 100% of their putting surfaces due to harsh winter conditions and ice cover. The quick decision was made to resurface the greens with washed bentgrass sod. The decision to resurface the greens with washed sod was made easier only because of the tree work and drill and fill practices instituted years earlier. A massive amount of Hutcheson’s Topdressing B sand has taken place both before and after installation of the new sod firming them up and getting them ready for play. The new surfaces opened on July 3rd and “we are very happy with the way they have performed so far” according to Golf Course Superintendent Dean A. Baker. Regular topdressing and annual drill and fill will take place for the foreseeable future.
Hutcheson appreciates the relationship we have built with BG&CC and we look forward to a continued relationship for many years to come.
